Chesapeake Woodcraft specializes in custom built handmade furniture and cabinetry reproduced from the most sought after Shaker, American Country/Colonial, Amish and Mission period or personal designs. These handcrafted styles of wood furnishings & cabinets are beautiful and complement any decor and are built to heirloom quality. I use various types of wood such as Cherry (my favorite), Red & White Oak,White Pine, Maple, Basswood & Poplar to name a few in crafting furniture and cabinetry. For most all projects I purchase wood directly from the mill which is rough sawn, the material is then milled in my shop (jointed, planed or re-sawn for each job). I have numerous mill sources from PA to NC which allow for greater flexibility in wood species and quality not to mention price. I use both solid wood and select cabinet grade veneers in some casework/cabinets depending upon the piece (only solid wood veneers are used, absolutely no veneer covered particleboard or MDF). My furniture pieces are built very strong using various types of traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon, as well as dovetails to name a few. One thing is for certain... you will find more time honored joinery types and glue only used in the construction in all of the furniture pieces I build than you will ever find nails, staples or screws (unlike factory made furniture). *Another specialty item that has been growing in popularity for my clients is custom interior shutters.
